Japan Matsuri 2017

COBU, based in New York City, was created as a Live Rhythm Performing Arts Group in 2000 by Yako Miyamoto, a veteran member of the off broadway-hit STOMP.

The motto of the group is “Dance like Drumming, Drum like Dancing”, inspired by the sounds of New York city and by the traditional Japanese culture. In fact, COBU’s style combines elements of the Japanese traditional Taiko drumming with the NY style street dancing and is characterized by its signature sound created organically through acoustic instruments rather than digital transcription.

We can therefore affirm that it’s exactly the union between tradition and innovation that makes this group unique and gives to the audience a show not to be missed!

In these 17 years, COBU has been featured in major venues including Madison Square Garden in NYC, the Colosseum, MGM Arena, the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas and the Key Arena in Seattle. The group was also the winner of the Wella International Trend Talent Award, the Audience Favorite Award at the 2011 New York Fringe Festival, it received the Grand Prize by Kollaboration and was listed by Time Out as one of the “must” 30 shows of our time!
Furthermore, Hollywood movie director Mr. Duane Adler developed a 3D film based on Yako Miyamoto called “Make Your Move / COBU 3D”, which was released in the USA in 2014.

In conclusion, seeing the performance of this amazing group is an incredible and unique opportunity!
