COBU, based in New York City, was created as a Live Rhythm Performing Arts Group in 2000 by Yako Miyamoto, a veteran member of the off broadway-hit STOMP.The motto of the group is “Dance like Drumming, Drum like Dancing”, inspired by the sounds of New York city and by the traditional Japanese culture. In fact, COBU’s style combines elements of the Japanese traditional Taiko drumming with the NY style street dancing and is characterized by its signature sound created organically through acoustic instruments rather than digital transcription.
