Cosplay workshop

The Cosplay was in born in Japan and is a performance art in which participants (cosplayer) wear costumes and behaving like a particular character of a movie, manga, comic or others.

The “Lightsaber Academy Ticino” will attend the Japan Matsuri with an exhibition area, their theme this year will be “Star Wars” and of course cosplay.

Description of the “Lightsaber Academy Ticino”:

The Group “Lightsaber Academy Ticino” (in the beginning “Jedi Academy Ticino”) was founded in 2012 almost by accident. As we were traveling back from the Lucca Comics & Games we discovered that in the USA they had Lightsabers (laser swords), so after bought some we started to create choreographed duels with these laser swords (in Italy and in the rest of the world this already was common, also in hospitals and charity events).

Since all of us were into cosplay, we decided to not just duel with the swords but also to recreate the feeling of Star Wars. So we started making our own Star Wars costumes, sometimes personalising them.

More members started to join us and we started going together to the multiple comic conventions that take place in Italy. Our group had the chance to meet official representatives of Star Wars, such as Walt Disney Italy, Warner Bros Italy and others.

SUMI-E

The Japanese word SUMI-E (墨絵), means literally: painting with ink.
It indicates an art of painting that is performed with black ink (sumi) in different dilutions.
It’s the art that represents the harmony through the use of ink, water and paper.
The brush is the instrument that allows to bring the sumi (ink) on the paper with all its different gradations.
It’s the black and white world, but also the territory of the different shades of gray, able to return to the viewer the illusion of colors.
The painted traits can not be corrected, therefore the painting requires concentration, dedication and good practice, the painting is not performed to demonstrate cleverness but to express themselves.

Program:

Without use of a drawing, you will compose paintings that at first glance look simple, but from which transpires harmony and elegance.
No painting experience is required, you will experience a new technique, which will be the first for everyone.
A different method, learning to observe the nature and to paint with the brush and the different gradations of black. From the dilution of the ink to the preparation of the gradations of black, to finish then with the creation of an image, a journey in the world and the culture of the Land of the Rising Sun.
